Hello, ZFS v8.1 (latest release) is compatible through Linux kernel v5.1. https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/releases The 5.1 kernels were removed from portage after they went end-of-life in early August. Kindly re-add sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-5.1.21 back into the tree so users of sys-fs/zfs-kmod and sys-fs/zfs will not need to revert to 4.19 based kernels. Best Regards, -Chicago
EOL kernels should never be kept around for so long. and if you don't delete old kernel it can stay in /usr/src as long as you use it. 0.8.1 unofficially works with 5.2 kernels, try emerging with # ZFS_KERNEL_COMPAT_OVERRIDE=5.2 emerge zfs-kmod -v1
For what its worth, Linux kernel v5.1.21 came out after ZFS v8.1 did. v5.1.21 was released on July 28th. ZFS v8.1 was released on June 14th. I have been doing as you pointed out is possible, by simply leaving the old kernel installed and working with it in /usr/src/. I see the 5.2.1 Linux kernel also came out after ZFS v8.1 (July 14th). If ZFS v8.1 *unofficially* works with the 5.2 kernels, then why not bump a keyworded sys-fs/zfs-kmod-0.8.1-r1 with ZFS_KERNEL_COMPAT="5.2" set inside of it?
