Description Gunnar Wagenknecht 2002-08-23 03:23:24 UTC
Hi!

Tried my first Gentoo disc today (image gentoo-i686-1.2.iso). During boot I get
a "Kernel panic" because not init is found. But from the boot messages I can
assume that all necessary hardware is initialized properly.

Board: ASUS CUB-X, onboard IDE only for primary enabled with the cd-rom
connected as primary master, a hard disk is connected to the second onboard ide
controller (UDMA100 controller)

----
ide0 at ... on irq 14
ide1 at ... on irq 12
hdc: [hardisc]
hda: ATAPI 8x CD_ROM drive
----

all went fine until

----
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly
Freeing unused kernel memory: 232k freed
Warning: unable to open initial console
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.

Verwilst, want to give this a shot? I know you've been working a lot with booting and
iso's and stuff lately, so maybe you have a solution? :)

after some reconfiguration of the BIOS it works now.

Don't know whats wrong because I effectively changed nothing.

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
