Description Michael Fothergill 2019-07-28 10:38:50 UTC
The bug was noticed by Neddy Seagoon the site admin in the output listed in this discussion thread on the use of distcc:

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1096342.html

The gssapi library is not being recruited when distcc is being compiled.

Comment 2 Michael Fothergill 2019-07-28 13:55:26 UTC
At the suggestion of NS I emerged dev-perl/GSSAPI manually and it installed.

I then emerged distcc and installed successfully.

But if you set the USe flag for GSSAPI in make.conf and then try to emerge distcc directly it can't handle that and fails.

If I understand it correctly emerge should install GSSAPI automatically without manual intervention before compiling and installing distcc itself.

Thank you for the report. Please recompile and
*attach* the logfiles and

Comment 4 Michael Fothergill 2019-08-12 16:35:02 UTC
Dear All,

I unmerged distcc and then unmerged dev-perl/GSSAPI.

I then tried emerging distcc and expected to be able to reproduce the error.

I could not.

When I emerged distcc again it seems to have installed OK without needing to install dev-perl/GSSAPI at all.

Go figure....

See here

I have made one world update since the bug post.

I don't know what has allowed this advance to occur.

I have installed pybug to help me post bugs more correctly in future.

All that is left if the old crash/failure to emerge is copied from the posting on the gentoo site that NS saw:

Dear All,

I forgot to add an extra piece of output that NS posted on the gentoo forum that I think came from the build.log file:

checking for library containing gss_init_sec_context... no
configure: error: in `/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/distcc-3.3.2-r5/work/distcc':
configure: error: --with-auth was given but no GSS-API library found
See `config.log' for more details

Please attach that too.
Comment 8 Michael Fothergill 2019-08-13 07:32:13 UTC
Dear Jeroen

I am afraid that the config file from the crash is no longer available.

I posted it and the build log file on various paste bin sites but they have since been deleted.

Posting crashes and errors on the gentoo forums site is actually easier than the bug page.

I can now see that this is why pybugz was written.

I need to learn to use it to file bug reports more comprehensively in the future.

Sorry about this.

It is possible that Neddy Seagoon may have looked at the config.log file after I posted it on the gentoo forums site and browsed through it.

He might recall some of its contents if we would email him and ask him.

Regards

MF

config.log

This is relatively easy to reproduce, especially on a fresh chroot. USE=gssapi only pulls in libgssglue but it seems to also require some specific gss provider. On my big systems, mit-krb5 supplies a suitable candidate so the build succeeds.

It seems to check for a few candidates-- -lgssapi, -lgssapi_krb5, -lgss. If none of the 3 is found, we see the reported failure.
