Michael has been contributing to Gentoo through Github for quite some time. He has contributed patches such as simple cleanups (patches and old ebuilds), EAPI bumps, and supports QA efforts via his own website [1]. He has been consistent in his contributions over a long period and is open to constructive criticism regarding his contributions which is a great attribute for any developer to possess. Michael hails from Upper-Austria/Gmunden, Austria and is employed by a major IT firm in the country. He possesses skills in Basic C, C# and Python. He considers himself well versed in Bash scripting and is skilled in networking and firewalls. His personal hobbies include jogging, cooking, and simply enjoying a ride on his motorbike. @recruiters, I have reviewed Michael's quizzes and I believe he is ready to be assigned a recruiter. He will be emailing his quizzes to recruiters@g.o here soon.
Hi, As noted i've sent the quizzes already to recruiters@g.o. Also, please note that I'm not available next week (from Aug 14 to Aug 17) as i'm traveling abroad.
Hi Michael and sorry for the delay (my fault). I would want to know what contributions you have made? I see you mainly have done EAPI bumps/unused files removal, and also listed in 4 packages' metadata, have I missed anything else?
Hello Mikle, No Problem. I'm also a bit late now.. ;) About the contributions - you're right. However, don't know if that matters, some years ago i've also created some patches in order to fix packages who doesn't respect AR/CC/RANLIB/LDFLAGS and helped with the multilib migration. See bugs [1] and [2] (not all are opened by me but i've created patches for them and added it to the bugs.) For the multilib migration i've also regularly updated the wiki pages [3] [1]https://bugs.gentoo.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=CONFIRMED&bug_status=IN_PROGRESS&bug_status=RESOLVED&bug_status=VERIFIED&email1=m.mairkeimberger%40gmail.com&emailassigned_to1=1&emaillongdesc1=1&emailreporter1=1&emailtype1=substring&list_id=4317760&query_format=advanced&resolution=---&resolution=FIXED&resolution=INVALID&resolution=WONTFIX&resolution=LATER&resolution=REMIND&resolution=DUPLICATE&resolution=WORKSFORME&resolution=CANTFIX&resolution=NEEDINFO&resolution=TEST-REQUEST&resolution=UPSTREAM&resolution=OBSOLETE&short_desc=respect&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr [2]https://bugs.gentoo.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=CONFIRMED&bug_status=IN_PROGRESS&bug_status=RESOLVED&bug_status=VERIFIED&email1=m.mairkeimberger%40gmail.com&emailassigned_to1=1&emaillongdesc1=1&emailreporter1=1&emailtype1=substring&list_id=4317758&query_format=advanced&resolution=---&resolution=FIXED&resolution=INVALID&resolution=WONTFIX&resolution=LATER&resolution=REMIND&resolution=DUPLICATE&resolution=WORKSFORME&resolution=CANTFIX&resolution=NEEDINFO&resolution=TEST-REQUEST&resolution=UPSTREAM&resolution=OBSOLETE&short_desc=multilib&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr [3]https://wiki.gentoo.org/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/Mmike&offset=&limit=500&target=Mmike
Sorry for the delay! After observing your submissions and also after discussion with your mentor I must say that this is not currently possible to determine if you are ready to be a dev with full access or not. My conclusion is based on your submissions complexity and not their number ("complexity" here means the type of problems you have solved before). Although I must also say that what you have done is undoubtfully useful, and I suggest you passing the developer quiz as a start point and then upgrade your status up to the full dev (should be not difficult). My idea here is to let you find the specific area where you can contribute to and solve more interestingand deep problems, here are spme projects you may find interesting and some of them are really in need of qualified contributions (like java, sci, clustering software etc).
Hello Mikle, No problem and thank you for your comment. I do understand your point here and I'm fine with the idea of getting involved to more specific project(s) in order to gain more in deep knowledge before becoming a dev. I will have a look at area(s) which exicte myself and see what i can do there. (apart of keeping my "simpler" contributions) Anything else i need to do right now?
Hello! Just try to get in touch with a team you would like to work with. Let me know if you have problems, we will try to sort it out together. As I also mentioned you are welcome to pass the developer quiz as a start.
Hello Mikle, Sounds like a plan! :) I'll be on vacation for the next two weeks (starting tomorrow), so i'll be unavailable that time. When i'm back i going send the developer-quiz as soon as possible (i guess again to recruiters@g.o?)
please reopen when ready.
Reopening, as I am now michaels mentor. Michael still wants to join us and has taken (again) the current quiz. He is currently actively contributing many PRs through proxy-maint on our Github project and also would like to join the games project afterwards, as his PRs also included games stuff updates. He will be shortly sending the quizzes to recruiters@g.o.
On request of Michael, changing his nick from iamnr3 to mm1ke.
Name: Michael Mair-Keimberger Nick: mm1ke Mentor: conikost Areas of contributions: games, proxy-maint Tree access: Yes
