Description Andrey La 2019-05-22 22:58:34 UTC
Hello,
My Gentoo Linux startup freeze at "Setting up the Logical Volume Manager" after update to sys-fs/lvm2-2.02.183
I'm waiting 30min and try to boot from LiveCD and "set -x" to /etc/init.d/lvm.
After reboot I see that Linux startup stop on command in LVM daemon:
printf "%b\n" "${lvm_commands}" | $lvm_path /proc/self/fd/0 --config "${config}" >/dev/null

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. update from sys-fs/lvm2-2.02.183 to sys-fs/lvm2-2.02.183
2. Reboot

Actual Results:
My Gentoo not work with sys-fs/lvm2-2.02.183.

Expected Results:
Correct boot

I use sys-fs/udev-239::gentoo and app-emulation/xen-4.10.3-r1.
lvm, lvmetad and device-mapper set in boot runlevel.

I have 4 HDD: 2 in RAID without LVM and 2 in RAID + LVM for XEN Virtual Machine.
I have problem only in dom-0(host)(hardware).

Update to lvm2-2.02.184-r2.ebuild _NOT_ resolve problem.
Downgrade to lvm2-2.02.145-r2.ebuild resolve problem.

I try to tar Gentoo OS and run it on VirtualBox.
On VirtualBox lvm run at startup - correct.

It is sad to read that you have problems with the software. The situation seems to be a bit more complicate and requires some analysis.
We can not help you efficiently via bug tracker. The bug tracker aims rather on specific problems in .ebuilds and less on individual systems.

I have had very good experience on the gentoo IRC [1] with questions like this. Of course there are also forums and mailing lists [2,3].
I hope you understand, that I will close the bug here therefore and wish you good luck on one of the mentioned channels [4].
Please reopen the ticket in order to provide an indication for an specific error in an ebuild or any gentoo related product.
