message of kernel 5.1.0

gentoo-sources-5.1.0 seems to have problems with AMD GPU
Within minutes X11 died several times display
amdgpu: The CS has been cancelled because the context is lost.
on the root console.

I'm writing this under gentoo-sources-5.0.13 where I don't have any such problems.

Xorg.0.log doesn't show any error messages, but there a lots of error messages
in the /var/log/messages which I have appended.

The same log file doesn't show any AMD GPU errors when running 5.0.13

Many thanks for looking into this,
Helmut

I had a short look into your log. Search engines spew out many hits on these warnings. I doubt that the gentoo kernel team can help here, but lets see.

I have had very good experience on the gentoo IRC [1] with questions like this. Of course there are also forums and mailing lists [2,3].
I hope you understand, that I will close the bug here therefore and wish you good luck on one of the mentioned channels [4].
Please reopen the ticket in order to provide an indication for an specific error in an ebuild or any gentoo related product.

Just for the record, the problem seems to have gone.

I've changed two things

1st) I added CONFIG_HSA_AMD=y in my kernel config
2nd) I upgraded mesa from 19.0.3 to 19.1.0_rc

I haven't seen any error message about AMD GPU since then.

Thanks for reporting back! If the problems are gone, can you please close this bug?
