Hi,

net-misc/rsync-3.1.3 init script refers /var/run:

/etc/init.d/rsyncd:pidfile="/var/run/${SVCNAME}.pid"

result of eix-sync

original setup was var/db/repos/gentoo. which was getting the same result.
changed to var/db/repos/gentoo/portage,samesame

At present I'm able to sync with the gentoo.org but not with my local repositories (velladec.in & swin.edu) so I suspect my problems are local rather than bug driven
