Description Todd Walton 2004-10-22 00:56:24 UTC
I've emerged Amaya, and the emerge went fine. But when I try to run it, by typing 'amaya' at the command line, it says:
"Gdk-ERROR **: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)"
" serial 115 error_code 2 request_code 51 minor_code 0"
Either the ebuild doesn't build Amaya right, or Amaya should by masked, I would think. Unless it's a problem on my part.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. 'emerge amaya'
2. 'amaya'
3. 'emerge moo'

Actual Results:
"Gdk-ERROR **: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)"
" serial 115 error_code 2 request_code 51 minor_code 0"

Expected Results:
Launched browser.

My current installation of amaya works.

check your X/gtk setup since it looks quite unrelated to amaya

I'll try to rebuild it
Comment 3 Luca Barbato gentoo-dev 2004-10-22 07:12:38 UTC
tried, it still works, I cannot reproduce the issue.

looks like a gtk+-1 issue, could you try to run other gtk+-1 programs and tell us if is working ok?
Comment 4 Todd Walton 2004-10-22 09:38:25 UTC
Dillo, Torrent, and XMMS all require GTK+-1, and they run fine. I'm using: gtk+-1.2.10-r11. Could this be an issue with Amaya not working well with that version of gtk?
Comment 5 Luca Barbato gentoo-dev 2004-11-26 13:07:46 UTC
any news? If I cannot reproduce I cannot fix it.
Please tell me your x11 version
Comment 6 Todd Walton 2004-11-27 17:23:16 UTC
I had unmerged it. I've re-emerged and tried to run it, and now I'm getting a different error. Now it says, 10 times: "Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkfont.c: line 220 (gdk_font_ref): assertion `font != NULL' failed." and then says, "*** Amaya: Irrecoverable error ***". This is Amaya 8.0, as it was last time, but when I try Amaya 8.5, it gives me the very same errors. My X server is xorg 6.8.0-r3, and I'm using gtk+-1.2.10-r11. I hope this new error means the old one has gone away. For more information, I tried emerging Amaya with USE="-gtk". Now when I run 'amaya' the browser opens, but then immediately closes, giving me "*** Amaya: Irrecoverable error ***". The "Gdk-CRITICAL" error isn't there, just the "Irrecoverable" error.
Comment 7 Luca Barbato gentoo-dev 2004-11-28 03:31:32 UTC
try with a clean configuration, looks like either your current configuration got corrupted or you have problems with font (and amaya isn't handling the issue gracefully)
Comment 8 Luca Barbato gentoo-dev 2005-12-23 01:25:43 UTC
Reopen if the problem persists
Comment 9 Todd Walton 2006-01-08 21:13:51 UTC
I've re-installed Gentoo from scratch since I originally opened this bug, so I know that everything is clean. I emerge Amaya, and then run 'amaya'.

Gdk-ERROR **: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
  serial 108 error_code 8 request_code 56 minor_code 0

This bug doesn't matter much (a little) to me, so don't bother too much on my account, but it *is* still a bug so I'm re-opening it. If you would like to squish it, I'm here to help. I'm going to discuss this with the Amaya mailing list.
Comment 10 felco 2006-01-24 14:18:29 UTC
I get the same error here.
I tryed compile Amaya without GTK too and I can open browser, but is too ugly :(
Without GTk its works fine for me and I can surf at sites... like Google... without problems, but with GTk support its get the Gdk error, I do a strace and get alot "No such files or directory" looking for ~/ files... one looking for libXcursors files... I can't see the problem... so I will post strace result's here.
