checking for library containing uuid_generate... no
configure: error: uuid_generate() not found in -luuid - required for chert and glass (you may need to install the uuid-dev, libuuid-devel or e2fsprogs-devel package

This seems to me to be the most likely problem. An emerge -s on each of the stated packages returns 0 packages.
