Description Jason Huebel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-19 11:11:43 UTC
Please add any LiveCD issues to this bug report. Make sure you include what you were doing when you found the bug, what the error was and if it's easily reproducable. Fixes are also helpful! :-)

i can only boot the livecd in my MSI K8N Neo Platinum if i give the parameter to the kernel "nodetect" or it will stop in the autodetecting fase of the boot.
this is very easy to reproduce in this MoBo.. don't know on others...
Comment 2 Carlos Silva (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-19 11:23:29 UTC
i'm using the module sata_nv to access my disk and i get alot of messages from nv_sata to console:
like nvsata: Primary device added
like nvsata: Primary device removed

i found this (http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=213589&highlight=nvsata) thread on the forums so i thing the kernel used in the livecd could be a higher revision of gentoo-dev-sources with the patch included or just patch the current kernel
Comment 3 Carlos Silva (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-19 11:33:34 UTC
another bug in the kernel from the livecd is that if we boot without the noapic option, in my case using the nforce 250 Gigabit ethernet, after everything booted up, i modprobe forcedeth to load the modulo i the module can detect link. so, to the module detect the connected cable to the card we should boot with noapic.

There are a number of SATA fixes in gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r9. The new LiveCD (which will be created tomorrow or Thursday) will include this (or a newer) kernel. Retest your nf3 issues when the new CD is available.

HP ML-350G4. (HP 641 Raid controller)
I've successfully booted test1. This is a great improvement over the 2004.2 which had huge problems with the smp (i.e. 2.6.5) kernel.
Comment 6 Sven Vermeulen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-21 10:04:45 UTC
Shutting down the system from LiveCD (shutdown -h now) fails with the following reason:

"""
* Saving device nodes... [oops]

* The "mv" command failed with error:

inter-device move failed: '/tmp/devices-3679.tar.bz2' to '/lib/udev-state/devices.tar.bz2'; unable to remove target: Read-only filesystem

* Since this is a critical task, start-up cannot continue.

Give root password for maintenance
(or type Control-D for normal setup): _
"""

Using the 2004.3-minimal-test4 cd; booted; configured network; cfdisk'ed devices and then ran shutdown. All in vmware

Ah, guess I should have been more clear that this is for tracking LiveCD issues for the AMD64 LiveCD. So swift, you'll need to report your issue to wolf3o12's tracking bug (not sure the number, though).

RTL8139 network card still not working using the 2004.3 live cd. I've tried using apic=no and no acpi to no avail...This is a VERY common network card, I would think it should auto-configure this one on it's own. However, even after loading modprobe and net-setup the device fails to be able to ping ANYWHERE!
