Description Marc 2004-10-19 07:03:37 UTC
After running xcompmgr, maximizing windows covers all gnome bars, even if xcompmgr is killed.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Emerge latest stable xorg (6.8.0-r1)
2. Enable Composite, and RENDER in an "Extentions" section in /etc/X11/XF86Config
3. Set "RenderAccel" to "true" in the device section (for nvidia cards).
4. emerge xcompmgr and transset with ~arch
5. Restart X (to enable things loaded in XF86Config)
6. Run xcompmgr
7. Open and maximize a window

Actual Results:
The windows covers the _whole_ screen, including gnome bars, which should stay
uncovered.

Expected Results:
The window should maximize to fill the whole screen, except where the gnome bars
are.

I'm using GNOME 2.6.2
Have a NVidia FX5200 graphics card
Have an x86 arch (I guess this problem would be the same on all arches)

this is not a bug, but expected behaviour (iirc theres a similar bug here somewhere).

You just start things in the wrong order, xcompmgr should be started before gnome or you should restart gnome-panel. That being said, gnome is not currently working dandy with the composite extension & we discourage the use of it.

xcompmgr in itself is nothing more than a proof-of-concept hack & in DE's (like GNOME) it will probably not be used as such.

Anyway in this bugreport we miss several parts that are important : 'emerge info' & version info . Please do read the bugform carefully next time you file a bug.
