Description Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-19 06:04:25 UTC
Hi all,

I have a problem with some virtual/x11 depending ebuilds. For example, I want to emerge "xmovie-1.8-r4". But I get this error:

[ 14:59 haim@itchy ~ ] emerge xmovie -p

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[blocks B ] x11-base/xorg-x11 (from pkg x11-base/xfree-4.3.0-r7)
[ebuild U ] sys-devel/patch-2.5.9 [2.5.4-r4] -build -debug -static 197 kB
[ebuild N ] x11-base/xfree-4.3.0-r7 -3dfx +3dnow -bindist -cjk -debug -debug +doc -ipv6 -mmx -nls +pam -sdk +sse -static +truetype +xml2 71,113 kB
[ebuild N ] media-video/xmovie-1.8-r4 -mmx 4,582 kB

Total size of downloads: 75,893 kB

I have installed xorg-x11-6.7.0-r2, so why is this ebuild requesting Xfree?
Any ideas on this?

Greetings and TIA, Matthias

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
I just try to emerge a virtual/x11 depending ebuild...

Please provide the output of emerge --info and reopen.

Comment 3 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-19 06:58:25 UTC
This looks profile related to me. Could there be something wrong with the 1.4 profile?
Comment 4 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-19 07:05:21 UTC
hmm... how can I check (and repair) this?
Comment 5 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-19 07:41:09 UTC
update: I added "virtual/x11 x11-base/xorg-x11" to the file /var/cache/edb/virtuals and now it works.

Is this normal? Do I have to change anything else in order to make this persistent?
Comment 6 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-21 06:19:12 UTC
any news on this?
Comment 7 Patrick Kursawe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-22 07:57:31 UTC
Your system seems to be a little strange. For example /etc/gentoo-release seems to be missing.
Comment 8 Matthias F. Brandstetter (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-22 12:28:30 UTC
... don't know if you want to call it really "strange", instead it's rather old. I installed it years ago, in pre Gentoo 1.2 times, and never did an "emerge world" afterwards, only what I needed was updated.

I remember there was no gentoo-release in this times though
Comment 9 Jan Brinkmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-01-07 16:27:08 UTC
i think this can be closed since x11-base/xfree was removed, if i'm wrong please reopen.
