I see the following in my qmail logs:

I use qmail-1.03-r13 and openssl-0.9.7d-r1.

I started re-emerging openssl and ran "make test". Is completed successfully. So it's not an openssl problem.

this indicates a problem with your certificates/sslkeys. How did you generate them?

Consult /usr/share/doc/qmail-1.03-r15/README.starttls.gz
and try having use tha rsa pem key present, and no other certificates.
