Description Aristotle Allen 2004-10-18 16:06:49 UTC
I emerged doom3, but when i run it there is no sound. I thought the alsa-oss bridge would take care of the sound, however it does not appear to be working.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. run doom3
2. wait for sound
3. no sound

Actual Results:
no sound

Expected Results:
sound, not very scary without sound

Since the recommended install from the handbook recommends alsa, and alsa-oss,
It would be nice if you could support, getting sound to work wth this
configuration. I'n not sure if there is a config problem on my side or if this
will require a patch, but I will be happy to test whatever necessary to assist.

It is definitely a config problem on your end simply because I am running ALSA on all of my machines and it works perfectly. In fact, it even works on amd64 using 32-bit ALSA OSS emulation.

I would check that you can use other applications setup to output to OSS. You might also want to kill any sound daemons you have running, such as artsd or esd.
