giving the attached output
Created attachment 3242 [details] output from emerge xmms-aalsa
Now the funny thing is that 'emerge alsa-lib' works fine.
the plugin you want to install is, in fact, alsa-xmms. I will update the DESCRIPTION for xmms-aalsa.
Is that enough? IMHO a gentoo user should be able to expect that emerge anypackage will install anypackage and all depencencies or fail even before decompressing source (e.g. if anypackage conflicts with an installed package). IMHO a gentoo user should not be expected to read DESCRIPTION before installing a package.
Arcady, how can we detect the alsa version installed? (ie, without using emerge or gentoolkit)
Hmm... There seems to be /proc/asound/version that contains the info. Would that do? agenkin@bashful:~$ cat /proc/asound/version Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 0.9.0rc2. Compiled on Aug 23 2002 for kernel 2.4.20-pre4-ac1 with versioned symbols.
wmmixer-alsa needs a similar thing. This is a reminder to myself to create an eclass which checks for the correct version of alsa
is this still an issue or can we close this ?
Now I get: checking whether gcc needs -traditional... no checking for alsa-driver package... not found or wrong version configure: error: Install alsa-driver v0.3.0pre5+ package first... !!! ERROR: media-libs/alsa-lib-0.5.10b failed. !!! Function src_compile, Line 19, Exitcode 1 !!! (no error message) Maybe it should depend on alsa-driver?
Well, alsa drivers older than 0.9 are not supported any more. My vote is for removing xmms-aalsa package and closing this bug as WONTFIX.
please do so
Removed.
