Comment 2 Ole Tange 2002-08-20 16:31:27 UTC
Now the funny thing is that 'emerge alsa-lib' works fine.

Comment 3 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-08-22 22:46:33 UTC
the plugin you want to install is, in fact, alsa-xmms. I will update the
DESCRIPTION for xmms-aalsa.
Comment 4 Ole Tange 2002-08-23 03:12:19 UTC
Is that enough?

IMHO a gentoo user should be able to expect that emerge anypackage will
install anypackage and all depencencies or fail even before decompressing
source (e.g. if anypackage conflicts with an installed package).

IMHO a gentoo user should not be expected to read DESCRIPTION before installing
a package.
Comment 5 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-08-26 09:12:27 UTC
Arcady, how can we detect the alsa version installed? (ie, without using emerge
or gentoolkit)
Comment 6 Arcady Genkin (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-08-26 12:26:03 UTC
Hmm... There seems to be /proc/asound/version that contains the info. Would
that do?

  agenkin@bashful:~$ cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 0.9.0rc2.
Compiled on Aug 23 2002 for kernel 2.4.20-pre4-ac1 with versioned symbols.
Comment 7 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-08-30 02:14:40 UTC
wmmixer-alsa needs a similar thing.

This is a reminder to myself to create an eclass which checks for the correct
version of alsa
Comment 8 Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-24 10:33:24 UTC
is this still an issue or can we close this ?
Comment 9 Ole Tange 2003-04-24 15:05:56 UTC
Now I get:

checking whether gcc needs -traditional... no
checking for alsa-driver package... not found or wrong version
configure: error: Install alsa-driver v0.3.0pre5+ package first...

!!! ERROR: media-libs/alsa-lib-0.5.10b failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 19, Exitcode 1
!!! (no error message)

Maybe it should depend on alsa-driver?
Comment 10 Arcady Genkin (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-24 17:19:26 UTC
Well, alsa drivers older than 0.9 are not supported any more. My vote is for removing xmms-aalsa package and closing this bug as WONTFIX.
Comment 11 Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-07-09 11:56:05 UTC
please do so
Comment 12 Arcady Genkin (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-07-10 12:27:25 UTC
Removed.
