Description Wong Li Jie 2004-10-17 08:31:52 UTC
As above. Symptoms are:
A) In evolution-2.0.[02]:
1) Trying to create a new addressbook crashes evolution.
2) Cannot add calendar
3) Cannot add tasklist
B) In the pilot conduits syncing just doesn't work.
1) (gpilotd:4047): ecalconduit-WARNING **: Could not start evolution-data-server
2) the addressbook conduit seems to work, but i don't see any contacts in evolution
3) (gpilotd:4047): etodoconduit-WARNING **: Could not start evolution-data-server

However, running as root, all of the evolution stuff works...

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start evolution
2. Go to the Contacts 'tab'
3. New -> Address Book

Actual Results:
gnome crash dialog in user account; normality using root account

Expected Results:
normality in both accounts?

can't reproduce. make sure you don't have the older evolution running when you start evolution-2.0

as for the gnome pilot stuff, it is a related problem to evolution-data-server not working properly. can you try running evolution-data-server from the console and see if there are any error messages?

/usr/libexec/evolution-data-server-1.0
Comment 2 Wong Li Jie 2004-10-18 06:18:51 UTC
This is the output:
lychee@mu games $ /usr/libexec/evolution-data-server-1.0
evolution-data-server-Message: Starting server
in server_log_handler
evolution-data-server-Message: Server up and running

exactly the same if i use root...
Comment 3 Wong Li Jie 2004-10-22 21:23:49 UTC
some updates:
when i am logged in as root, and i start evolution-data-server on a console, and then i run evolution, evolution-data-server spews out some output; however, as a normal user, it doesn't do anything...

using both root and normal users, i cannot start up a second instance of e-d-s; i get:
evolution-data-server-Message: Starting server
libedata-book-Message: Error registering the PAS factory: already active

evolution-data-server-ERROR **: server.c:349: could not initialize Server service "BOOKS"; terminating
aborting...
Aborted

You can't start up multiple instances of the eds daemon anyway.

I can't reproduce this, what versions of evo/eds are you using? Does it work as another user (ie, not as root, not as your problematic user, but a new user)?

No response, see my suggestions above.
