$ cat /usr/portage/www-servers/lighttpd/files/lighttpd.tmpfiles.conf 
d /var/run/lighttpd 0750 lighttpd lighttpd -

This will be installed as /usr/portage/www-servers/lighttpd/files/lighttpd.tmpfiles.conf

Starting lighttpd with "systemctl start lighttpd.service" produced this message in the journal:
systemd-tmpfiles[15436]: [/usr/lib64/tmpfiles.d/lighttpd.tmpfiles.conf:1] Line references path below legacy directory /var/run/, updating /var/run/lighttpd → /run/lighttpd; please update the tmpfiles.d/ drop-in file accordingly.
