I like having my bottom gnome-panel at 120px and autohide... I use nice converted mac icons to png files... But when I installed the latest gnome-panel, my icons were blurry... Smaller icons on smaller panels look OK... but anything above 48px started to look blurry. I'll file a bug report w/ gnome.org as well... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Rezied panels 2.Used failsafe gnome 3.emerge previous version 2.8.0 Expected Results: Nice looking icons... like I had before
what is the upstream bug url ?
It's reported that this problem is fixed in gnome-panel-2.8.1 So once that's in portage... we can all be happy.
Well 2.8.1 came.... and my icons are blurry again. I can't find anything at bugs.gnome.org
If you're using say.. 48px Icons, and you're scaling them up to 120px, wouldn't you expect them to be blurry? They're only pngs, not svg.
Created attachment 45180 [details] screenshot No no... for one, I said they became blurry... They were nice once. It's because I use nice icons converted from mac icons... they are png files, but w/ a nice res... I found a program called icon2png. And the icon them I use is nice too... d3a.... I'll attatch a screenshot... forgive the size I make the panels autohide... that's why I make them big I have icons on the far right that use the same theme, and they are still fine.
they're scaled, thats all there is to it. The other bigger icons are either svg's or also provided in a largers size.
Created attachment 52539 [details] Screen shot with icon comparison of panel and desktop This is not true... if I drag the icon from the panel, to the desktop area... I can stretch it bigger, and it looks sharp... Here is an atatchment showing that. Notice how the Firefox icon on the desktop is bigger then the same panel icon, but the desktop icon is sharp, while my panel icon is blurry... It's been months now, and I even installed the new gnome-panel 2.8.3, but still no change.
See above...
does this still happen with gnome-panel-2.10.0 ? if it does, please attach / provide a web address where we can easily download the images and test this.
no response from reporter, needinfo.
sorry, I thought I could reply to the e-mail... Yeah... it works now w/ gnome-panel-2.10 However, I think it worked because I did a revdep-rebuild and fixed some broken libraries before I upgraded to gnome-panel-2.10. I'm sorry I forgot to close the bug...
