Description Jared Kidd 2004-10-14 20:47:49 UTC
the new gnome-volume-manager/hald/dbus/udev whatever does not work (probably) because hald is not loaded at the right time on boot up. On my system hald is loaded and then twards the end usbd is loaded. my usb memory sticks do not mount (while cds do, after i disabled famd ;-), but once i do a "/etc/init.d/hald restart" everything works great!

I am not sure what exactly causes it not to work, I am just GUESSING. But I am about to test possible solutions and then post back in my topic:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=237035

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.boot up
2.Plug in usb memory stick, it just doesn't work (I am guessing load hald before usbd or udev)
3.

Actual Results:
no usb stick mounted, no fstab entry made.

Expected Results:
make fstab entry (/dev/sda1) and mount the drive.

Simple fix (restart hald, make it start after dependant services)

i dunno what usbd does, but you do not need it for gvm to work afaik & it might just be interfering.

Also you didn't mention your 'emerge info' like you always should in bugreport (read the form!)

Is this still an issue?

Hi all, this confusion is created because usbd is misspelled in the ebuild!

It does not mean USB Daemon, d stands for development.

Therefore it is important someone fixes the ebuilds description text, so people
know its only for developers and not a needed Daemon for running usb.

sorry for double posting,

a better idea would be rename the package to usbdev - and the Description

thanks for the insight, but with no reply from the reporter I'm closing this.
