This is basically the same issue as found here: https://bugs.gentoo.org/663620 The bitness in the underlying Thunderbird source is incorrect: /var/tmp/portage/www-client/seamonkey-2.49.9.1_p0/work/thunderbird-52.9.1/mozilla/python/mozbuild/mozbuild/configure/constants.py CPU_bitness = { 'aarch64': 64, 'Alpha': 32, <------wrong 'arm': 32, 'hppa': 32, 'ia64': 64, 'mips32': 32, 'mips64': 64, 'ppc': 32, I think patching seamonkey perhaps won't get to the heart of the issue in the thunderbird source...perhaps that package should be patched instead? I'm shit at building patches and working with the ebuild system, but I'm happy to submit a simple patch with some guidance.

Created attachment 595792 [details, diff] Patch for wrong bitness in mozconfig Fixes bitness error during configure phase.
The above patch is for seamonkey-2.49.5-r1 According to this: https://packages.gentoo.org/packages/www-client/seamonkey seamonkey-2.49.9.1_p0 has been superseded.
Came up with the same patch, I confirm that it is defined incorrectly in sources. This was needed to make it compile.
Thanks guys. I'll poke at this and see that it gets committed.
This is fixed in the in-tree version. I tried, but couldn't figure out when it was fixed upstream.
