Yes, it did not apply. However, web_start works for us using openjdk and icedtea. We might have a simple case, I have no idea really.
icedtea-web appears slow to develop There is a new kid on then block, OpenWebStart Java Web Start is dead. Long live Java Web Start! Java Web Start (JWS) was deprecated in Java 9, and starting with Java 11, Oracle removed JWS from their JDK distributions. This means that clients that have the latest version of Java installed can no longer use JWS-based applications. And since public support of Java 8 has ended in Q2/2019, companies no longer get any updates and security fixes for Java Web Start. This is why we decided to create OpenWebStart, an open source reimplementation of the Java Web Start technology. Our replacement will provide the most commonly used features of Java Web Start and the JNLP standard, so that your customers can continue using applications based on Java Web Start and JNLP without any change. repo: https://github.com/karakun/OpenWebStart

openwebstart-1.3.1 is out, btw. I need to continue using a JNLP app and therefore, still keep jre-8 to execute it.
I added this to my portage overlay for testing. You can find the mirror here: https://github.com/ran-dall/portage-overlay I would appreciate if anyone that uses it, provides feedback. I feel like this would be much better served on the Guru overlay, however, I believe getting some more testing on it going before uploading would be a decent idea. From my limited testing with IPMI, it works on my machine with Java 8 (fwiw, only Java 11 is also compatible), however most times (when using with IPMI) performance isn't anything too impressive... but it does work.

I've just discovered OpenWebStart after spending quite some time on v8: icedtea JVM doesn't support JavaFX while openjdk-8 has the javafx use flag masked on ppc64le (which fortunately works fine if you unmask it). Good to know that it would be possible to use openjdk-11+
There is OpenWebStart_linux_1_5_2.deb available. The dev-java/openweb-start-bin-1.4.0::randall works for my limited purposes, though.
I see why there are parse errors with the /usr/share/mime/packages/jnlp.xml file. The jnlp.xml contains instead a redirect error message from Apache webserver pointing to the attachement page with the jnlp.xml file. Anyway, there is 1.6.0 version out.

I will be happy if somebody else picks this package up and wil test it.
Seems like these files still works for 1.7.0. I added openwebstart-bin to my own overlay fol4, so it's available there if anyone needs it. Maybe this is a package ripe for proxy maintainment or something?

Adding it to ::guru (Project GURU, https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:GURU) would be a good first step.
Hi, I will be any happy with any solution which does not require my action. I think Gentoo is shooting in its own feet by removing packages from the tree, I will fetch the evtl. trojans from elsewhere. Is that a win of Gentoo purists? I wonder how did the Gentoo PR and Sec teams ever manage to pursue God, that the way they are handling Gentoo, is the right way to go. At the moment, I fetch the very outdated Java Webstart crap and update from an unknown network but after accepting reinstallations in some temp space I anyway have to reject the upgrade as it anyway cannot proceed and overwrite the existing installation. So in a second attempt, I just reject the upgrade and continue with the existing 1.4.x or whatever, years old version ... to execute a crappy app to decrypt my banking key and to establish an https connection. I am just delayed by the dracut+LUKS tied to OpenRC on my 20 years old installation of Gentoo, to migrate away. Need yet another huge temp drive to move it over at least for a while. Don't take me wrong. If @dberkholz manages to rewamp portage so that multiple portage trees AND eclasses can coexist, I could revive the old version of apps, python-2.7, java-7, etc. to keep going. Thanks all who keep bumping up the EAPI and zapping the older EAPI version, so that "outdated" ebuilds stop working. Until that happens, sooner or later, I will migrate away. Probably after my bank account is emptied due to the outdated Java OpenWebStart or when I buy a new laptop. From others I have heard of reverting to portage snapshots. Yeah, I am also hearing "experiences" about a number of portage blocks faced due to masked packages etc. from others. I also run a number of hosts where I cannot upgrade openssl, systemd is always kicking in and causing portage conflicts.
Is there any updated ebuild for this? I tried openwebstart-bin-1.7.0 from fol4, and it didn't work - I tried 3 different jnlp apps. Latest version at this moment is 1.9.1. icedtea-web doesn't work either. I'd like to help but I don't know how to write ebuilds.
