Installing minikube-0.30.0 just failed for me saying that Kubernetes requires at least dev-lang/go-1.11.1. After unmasking and installing this version by hand, minikube-0.30.0 installed just fine. The ebuild should state this dependency on a minimum Go version.

+1, just ran into the same issue. It seems there currently is no way to define which (minimal) version of golang is required via the golang eclasses. So I guess for now the only way would be to add it to DEPENDS? Not sure if this is a good thing though, since there's also gccgo. After a quick check on IRC the suggestion was that the eclasses could adopt the same behavior of checking/ensuring the compiler version in pkg_setup, same as is done for CC/C++. This would need to be added to the golang eclasses. P.S. This bug is effectively a duplicate of https://bugs.gentoo.org/660386 just with newer versions of kubectl and golang.
I've added a DEPEND on golang-1.11 to kubectl-1.13.1 and kubernetes 1.13.1 in general. In general I'd recommend running latest golang available with k8s.
