After upgrading to sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-4.18.20 my Intel laptop failed to load any form of UI (i.e., no TTY *and* no X). This happened twice in a row and in both cases I needed to use the sysrq keys to reboot, since pressing the power button didn't work (the logs say that systemd-logind registered the power button press, but apparently didn't try to power off the system). After booting back up using 4.18.19 I found the following relevant entries in the systemd journal: Nov 22 11:40:53 arthur systemd-udevd[305]: seq 1664 '/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0' is taking a long time Nov 22 11:42:53 arthur systemd-udevd[305]: seq 1664 '/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0' killed Nov 22 11:42:53 arthur systemd-udevd[305]: worker [314] terminated by signal 9 (KILL) Nov 22 11:42:53 arthur systemd-udevd[305]: worker [314] failed while handling '/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0' That particular device points to my graphics hardware, which consists of an Intel i915 chipset (hence the lack of any UI, I suppose). I then tried upgrading to 4.19.3, which also works. So: - 4.18.19 works - 4.18.20 fails - 4.19.3 works Note that under 4.19.3 I don't see any entry in /sys/devices that belong to the graphics hardware. Other than "emerge --info" (pasted below), is there any other information that would be helpful?
