Wikimedia, for example, provides a database dump of its wikis on a periodic basis: https://dumps.wikimedia.org/ In my opinion Gentoo should also periodically provide a database dump of its wiki for backup purposes. Of course personal data should be removed from the database dumps for privacy reasons.
We have no plans to dump the database. Sorry. In the past this has caused many non-official wiki's popping up.
In my humble opinion it's better to have unofficial wikis popping up instead of eventually losing all wiki data forever. I still remember when the old gentoo-wiki.com lost all data. It's was a sad day for me. Moreover everybody knows wiki.gentoo.org is the official domain name for the Gentoo Wiki. Wikipedia releases database dumps because everybody knows wikipedia.org is the official domain name. Not releasing database dumps is just like not releasing source code for some program because someone may decide to fork the code.
