I can't compile the games-fps/duke3d game with the -fPIC gcc option. But without it, it compiled correctly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. The correct emerge info (I use the USE="-pic" additional parameter, because i compiled the game with the `USE="-pic" emerge duke3d` command): kiki ~ # USE="-pic" emerge info Portage 2.0.51_rc9 (default-linux/x86/2004.3, gcc-3.4.2, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r0, 2.6.8-gentoo-r7 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.8-gentoo-r7 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Mobile CPU 1.80GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.5.3 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r5 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 Binutils: sys-devel/binutils-2.15.92.0.2 Headers: sys-kernel/linux26-headers-2.6.8.1-r1 Libtools: sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r5 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -mtune=pentium4 -mfpmath=sse -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -mtune=pentium4 -mfpmath=sse -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs buildpkg ccache distlocks fixpackages sandbox sfperms" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.easynet.nl/mirror/gentoo/ http://gentoo.mirror.icd.hu/ http://gentoo.mirror.sdf.fr/ http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu/ http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X Xaw3d aac accounting acpi acpi4linux alsa apache2 apm arts audiofile avi bcmath berkdb bitmap-fonts bootsplash bzlib cdb cdparanoia cdr cdrom clamac clamav crypt ctype cups curl curlwrappers dbase dbm devfs devfs26 directfb divx4linux dlloader dv dvb dvd dvdr dvdread encode esd exif f77 fam fbcon fftw flac foomaticdb freetype fs ftp gcj gd gdbm geoip ggi gif gimp gimpprint gmp gnutls gphoto2 gpm gtk gtk2 guile hal iconv icq image imagemagick imap imlib inifile intl irda jack java javascript jikes jpeg jpeg2k junit kde lcd lcms lesstif libg++ libwww lirc live lm_sensors lzo lzw lzw-tiff mad mcal memlimit mhash mikmod mime mixer mmap mmx mmx2 mng motif mozcalendar mozdevelop mozilla mozsvg mozxmlterm mp3 mpeg mpeg4 mplayer msn nas ncurses nethack network nls nptl ntlm nvidia objc odbc oggvorbis openal opengl openssh oscar pam parse-clocks pcap pcmcia pcntl pcre pdf pdflib perl png pnp posix postgres ppds pthreads pwdb python qt quicktime readline recode samba scanner sdl shared sharedmemsimplexml skey slang smartcard smime sms sockets speex spell sse sse2 ssl svg svga sysvipc tcltk tcpd theora threads tidy tiff transcode truetype type1 unicode usb userlocales v4l v4l2 virus-scan vnc wmf wxwin wxwindows x86 xfs xine xinerama xinetd xml xml2 xmlrpc xmms xpm xprint xscreensaver xv xvid yahoo zlib linguas_hu linguas_en"
Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. Do you claim that having "pic" in your USE flags changes the way the game is compiled? From the summary, it seems like you're saying that you have "-fPIC" in your CFLAGS but I don't see that in your emerge --info output so I don't know you're talking about. Please provide more information, perhaps the whole output from the attempted emerge and reopen the bug when you have. Thanks.
