same here
I'm getting this too. I've verified the MD5 and it is correct compared to the digests I can find any MD5 for this file in. I've grabbed the file from 10+ different mirrors and yet got the problem... A work around I found is to remove the SHA1 sum for the file in /usr/portage/sys-libs/glibc/files/digest-glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1 Not sure if this might be the source of the problem or even an "acceptable" workaround, but I'm going to do this so I can proceed and figured I'd share in case it helps resolve this.
This is the checksum I have. eabe1f4779fc27cde985b0713f930827 glibc-infopages-2.3.4.tar.bz2 What do others get for this file?
I am also having this problem.
I got the same checksum on the file I download as listed in comment #4, that is also the checksum listed in both /usr/portage/sys-libs/glibc/files/digest-glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1 as well as <the same dir>/digest-glibc-2.3.4.20041006 I also got a filesize of 1175502, which is the same as in the above two mentioned files. So the MD5sum of the file is the same as in the digest files, it seems to only be the SHA1 thing that messes stuff up somehow, possibly confuses the script. Not sure if I'm allowed to, but description of bug should maybe be changed to a bug in the bootstrap.sh script not being able to handle the SHA1 checksums listed in the digests, because that's where I think the real problem is (but I'm just a newbie...) I also would call this a very serious bug as it now completely halts installation from a minimal LiveCD unless you know what files to mess around with and I don't really think there's any good hints given about it.

Answer to Solar: Fetched file: glibc-infopages-2.3.4.tar.bz2 MD5 FAILED! Removing corrupt distfile... So it isn´t possible to check this with the file that emerge downloads. Now I did: wget http://dev.gentoo.org/~lv/glibc-infopages-2.3.4.tar.bz2 What should be the file from my first posting and I get the same md5sum as you did. # md5sum glibc-infopages-2.3.4.tar.bz2 eabe1f4779fc27cde985b0713f930827 glibc-infopages-2.3.4.tar.bz2
Tried it again with: wget http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/distfiles/glibc-infopages-2.3.4.tar.bz2 ls -l glibc-infopages-2.3.4.tar.bz2 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1175502 9. Jun 14:04 glibc-infopages-2.3.4.tar.bz2 md5sum glibc-infopages-2.3.4.tar.bz2 eabe1f4779fc27cde985b0713f930827 glibc-infopages-2.3.4.tar.bz2 This also _machtes_ the md5sum from Solar, as Mathias Wittlockallready wrote
Also would like to point out, that after removing the SHA1 parts (for all the files related to glibc) from the digest file the bootstrap script executed just fine with no apparent errors. Just to make that clear.
This bug seems to halt installation from the minimal CD, atleast with hardened sources, though someone mentioned that it stops it entirely. Because the author has not raised this bug's priority, I filed a second bug report that has this bug's name and number listed in it, and filed it as critical.
*** Bug 67186 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
this bug appears resolved now after an emerge sync, thanks to anyone who fixed this. By resolved I mean: for me, using hardened sources and cascading profiles.
looks like someone did a commit using portage 2.0.51_rc8. sorry about that...
