I think it's a leftover from gcc upgrade. dev-cpp/libbinio was built by older gcc and defaulted to c++98.

I suggest re-building dev-cpp/libbinio and then trying to install adplug again:
    # emerge -v1 dev-cpp/libbinio
    # emerge -v1 media-libs/adplug

thanks!! that did the trick. Please close
Comment 5 Markus Giese 2018-11-01 10:34:50 UTC

Comment 6 Markus Giese 2018-12-12 23:05:47 UTC
switching to gcc-8.2 did not help. adplay still does not compile. any suggestions ?
Comment 7 Sergei Trofimovich (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2018-12-12 23:31:13 UTC
Looks like adplay bundles glibc's getopt implementation. Headers try accould for it but c++ protos changed. Code comment notes it's a fragile definition:

  /* Many other libraries have conflicting prototypes for getopt, with
     differences in the consts, in stdlib.h. To avoid compilation
     errors, only prototype getopt for the GNU C library. */
  extern int getopt (int __argc, char *const *__argv, const char *__shortopts);
  # else /* not __GNU_LIBRARY__ */
  extern int getopt ();
  # endif /* __GNU_LIBRARY__ */
Comment 8 Sergei Trofimovich (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2018-12-12 23:47:28 UTC
Let's solve adplay problem in bug #638580 and leave this bug to adplug.
