Description Pavel 2018-10-10 05:30:38 UTC
Argumentation:

1. State of openssl 1.1 in gentoo at the moment. It is not coming there any much soon, not going to be there for at least next half a year.

2. LibreSSL upstream support. The upstream is not looking into it for any soon coming release.

3. Were we go with standalone openssl for 1.1, we will need to backport and support node's own hacks for 1.1.

This statement/question fits better to a discussion board instead of a bug tracker. We can not discuss here, so I am closing.
