The application "links2" is not provided on the gentoo-alpha-1.4rc1-test4.iso.bz2 boot CD. All request from the internet must use "wget." Command syntaxes need to be changed to "wget" instead of "links2". References: * 2.c.Optional: Viewing Documentation while Installing * 2.c.Code Listing 12 * 2.c.Code Listing 13 * 5.b.Code Listing 4 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Follow Gentoo Linux/Alpha Handbook - Install instructions 2. At step "2.c.Optional: Viewing Documentation while Installing" ... links2 will be impossible to use.
wget isn't a browser. Is "lynx" provided on the LiveCD?
Yes "lynx" works. This is not an option listed in 3.b. of the documentation. It is spelled "links" there. Being a new user, I didn't really know what else to look for, so I tried the items that were listed in 3.b. So, the following should reference "lynx": * 2.c.Optional: Viewing Documentation while Installing * 2.c.Code Listing 12 * 2.c.Code Listing 13 And the following should reference how to use "wget" to get a file since "links2" is not available for helping in the download process. [I am assuming you can't download with "lynx."]: * 5.b.Code Listing 4
Indeed; we need to modify hb-install-stage.xml to inform the reader that, if links2 isn't available, he should have lynx at his disposal. lynx does support downloading though; just read the bottom line (or lines) on your screen; you'll see that you can [D]ownload easily.
and the hb-install-$alpha-medium.xml file as well (forgot that one).
Fixed in CVS.
