ebuild submition for nenscript. seems to work just fine.  Has minor patch for makefile to support CFLAGS from /etc/make.conf.

Another RIT person here... I know this bug is fairly old, but have you seen enscript in portage? Is there anything that nenscript does that enscript doesn't? (except being public domain instead of GPL)  In fact, the CS Dept. now offers both enscript/nenscript.
