Created attachment 549056 [details] Relevant snippets from build.log First Gentoo bug (and switched to Gentoo only two weeks ago), so please be gentle. :) emerge --update --deep tries to update pam from 1.2.1-r2 to 1.3.0-r2 and fails with: * ERROR: sys-libs/pam-1.3.0-r2::gentoo failed: * install aborted due to severe warnings shown above * * Call stack: * misc-functions.sh, line 601: Called install_qa_check * misc-functions.sh, line 217: Called source 'install_symlink_html_docs' * 90gcc-warnings, line 167: Called gcc_warn_check * 90gcc-warnings, line 161: Called die * The specific snippet of code: * has stricter ${FEATURES} && \ * die "install aborted due to severe warnings shown above" Will attach relevant sections of the build log (am I really supposed to post the whole thing? It's nearly 450 KB) plus output from emerge --info.
Created attachment 549058 [details] Output from emerge --info
Yes, *attach* the full logfiles and paste the emerge info as described on https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Attach_the_logs_to_the_bug_ticket The logs must be part of the ticket, but not on external websites. We need to have all information at hand before ticket assignment, so that the maintainer can look after it in one session with minimal number of callbacks. Please reopen this ticket (Status:unconfirmed) afterwards. Have a look at the other bugs about sys-libs/pam I think it is a duplicate, but I can not say for sure, because I do not know sys-libs/pam well.
Created attachment 549630 [details] Full build log
Thank you for your kind reply. Full build log has been compressed and attached. Sorry about emerge --info: I must have overlooked the part about appending category/packagename. Unfortunately, I have thus not saved the necessary information. I have since reconfigured my system not to use pam at all (a rather agreeable workaround for this problem, made possible by the wonders of Gentoo), so I guess running `emerge --info sys-libs/pam' now would not make a whole lot of sense anymore. I have not been able to find another bug for sys-libs/pam that contains the particular warning that caused my build to fail. Having learned a bit more about Gentoo in the meantime, I now realize that I probably would not have encountered this problem if I had not selected the "stricter" FEATURE in /etc/portage/make.conf. I am not sure if you expect a build to succeed at all if "stricter" has been selected. However, the description of "stricter" in make.conf(5) certainly leads me to believe that it should be possible to compile a security-critical package such as pam with "stricter" set.
Ok, so I compared the output of `emerge --info sys-libs/pam' and `emerge --info', and it is identical. So here's the saved output of `emerge --info' from the time the build failed, pasted into the comment box as requested. (This is identical to the contents of the second attachment created on 10/3.) Your failure is releated to the FEATURES="srtricter" in your make.conf. It should _not_ be set on a user's system, it is for developers. And, as portage noticed, please do not report these bugs to gentoo, but to the upstream developers.
