Thanks for the notice. I am very well aware of the new versions. I already added hplip-3.18.7 but removed it shortly afterwards. I am a bit concerned about adding the versions starting from hplip-3.18.7 because of the new libimageprocessor (https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1785230) which also causes a lot of QA warnings you probably noticed. Thanks for updated distribution patch. Your destdir patch however creates an invalid symbolic link.
Hi Daniel, oh, I didn't mean to annoy you. I just thought you don't have hplip on your radar now that we are three versions behind, but... that binary blob is a serious issue and now I understand why you didn't bump the package any further. I hope this will get sorted out and the binary blob will disappear. Thanks for your kind reply and your work on hplip.

Yes it is an issue and other distributions are already starting to patch it out. I am a bit hesitant to add this patch because in the case of hplip more and more patches are accumulating which are not merged upstream. So maintaining them gets less and less fun.
As a very crude hack for experiments, there is my version of 3.18.9. Ebuild and hplip-gentoo-patches is derived from 3.18.6-r2 version. Debian patches are taken from hplip_3.18.9+dfsg0-1.debian.tar.xz

This is fixed in git with hplip-3.18.10. I have applied the patch from Debian which should do the trick.
