Description Michael Stewart Anderson 2004-10-06 19:59:06 UTC
I am a noobie and have been trying to get system up for a while by looking at responses on forums and bugzilla. Each time I try, I can't seem to get by installation of ati-drivers.

Currently, I have sucessfully emerged system and compiled my kernel (2.6.8-r3).

Every time I try to emerge ati-drivers I get the following error:

/usr/include/bits/local_lim.h:36:26: linux/limits.h: No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [imake.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/xorg-x11-6.7.0-r2/work/xc/config/imake'
make[1]: *** [imake.proto] Error 2
make[1}: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/xorg-x11-6.7.0-r2/work/xc'
make: *** [World] Error 2

!!! ERROR: x11-base/xorg-x11-6.7.0-r2 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 584, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

I have updated linux-headers to linux26-headers according to this bug. (66223)

I am not sure what to do or how to approach this problem. Perhaps I am a bit over my head, but I want to become proficient at figuring things out.
I am not sure how to copy and send my computer output or send my basic setup using command line so I have had to type this info in.

Not sure how to find out what version of gcc I am using or how to find that out.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge ati-drivers
2.
3.

Actual Results:
I got the error message

Expected Results:
finished installing the ati-drivers

Try remerging your headers please, linux/limits.h should be installed by them...
