After upgrading to thunderbird 60, the gdata provider extension (bundled) doesn't work anymore. It is listed under extensions but clicking on the properties of a subscribed google calender shows 'The provider of this calendar could not be found. This often happens if you have disabled or unimstalled certain addons.'

Thanks for the update. I had to hack gdata-provider into place as it's actually been fully disabled in thunderbird-60's codebase, it seems I must have missed something. I'll see what I can do. There is a 60.1 that will be released soon, which is supposed to include properly working lightning and gdata-provider; worst case this bug will disappear once that version lands.
at least with =mail-client/thunderbird-60.3.3-r1 (probably even 60.3.2-r1) this issue seems to be solved. thanks

the issue came back with some version prior 68.3.0 (probalby 68.2.*). in the hope it's gonna be fixed I waited until now... some investigation showed that the manifest.json file was missing. creating such a file let the extension be visible in the add-on page but it still doesn't work :(
I'm also wondering why gdata-provider is installed with USE=-lightning?
I am closing this bug as obsolete given that this is now integrated in >=78.x.
