Description Stolz 2004-10-05 16:05:44 UTC
I installed a new system on a amd64 3200 departing from a stage2 tarball (stage1 has bootstrap broken).
When I did an "emerge system", the emerge process stopped during the compilation of e2fsprogs-1.35-r1 with the following lines:
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/e2fsprogs-1.35-r1/work/e2fsprogs-1.35/tests/progs'
making all in po
make[2]: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/e2fsprogs-1.35-r1/work/e2fsprogs-1.35/po'
: --update cs.po e2fsprogs.pot
rm -f cs.gmo && : -c --statistics -o cs.gmo cs.po
mv: cannot stat `t-cs.gmo': No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [cs.gmo] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/e2fsprogs-1.35-r1/work/e2fsprogs-1.35/po'
make[1]: *** [all-progs-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/e2fsprogs-1.35-r1/work/e2fsprogs-1.35'
make: *** [all] Error 2

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge sync
2.emerge system

Actual Results:
emerge system fails

Expected Results:
completed the emerge system

Comment 1 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2004-10-05 21:06:01 UTC
can you post the whole output of `emerge e2fsprogs >& log`
Comment 2 Enderson Tadeu S. Maia (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-06 06:36:16 UTC
I've installed the on AMD64 with stage3 from CD, and doing an emerge -UD world
it stopped at e2fsprogs.

Should I attach all the output to the bug, or as a message ?

I got this message at the end:

gcc -o test_icount test_icount.o test_icount_cmds.o ../../lib/libext2fs.so ../../lib/libss.so ../../lib/libcom_err.so

i think i have found the problem, i had some issues with my gcc config
there was an old entry in my /etc/ld.so.conf of a gcc version that i had unmerged some time ago which seemed to have caused that problem. i noticed it when i got an libstdc++ error emerging. but it could have been my /etc/end.d/99libstdc++ file, too. i deleted it by accident and rebuild it so it looks like the one on my other computer (only entry in it: LDPATH="/usr/lib/libstdc++-v3/") sorry that i can't give more accurate information but now e2fsprogs compile fine for me.

(from Bug 66641)

what do you guys have for LOCALE/LANG/etc... ?
Comment 9 Michael Bayer 2004-10-20 05:35:56 UTC
seems to be a problem with binutils. After some hassle with gettext I managed to install binutils-2.15.92.0.2-r1 and now e2fsprogs-1.35-r1 compiles flawlessly.
Comment 10 Guy Rouillier 2004-10-24 21:03:02 UTC
I encountered this same issue trying to "emerge --update gnome". Unfortunately, this has rendered my system unable to startx - "(EE) No Input driver matching `Keyboard'". I'm typing this from Mandrake 10.0 I have installed on a different partition on the same eMachines M6805 laptop. emerge shows this for binutils:

sys-devel/binutils
      Latest version available: 2.15.90.0.1.1-r3
      Latest version installed: 2.15.90.0.1.1-r3

I'd appreciate any pointers on how to update binutils. My gentoo installation is currently unusable. Thanks.
Comment 11 Guy Rouillier 2004-11-10 22:07:34 UTC
While waiting for a response, I just tonight noticed that a newer version of gnome was available (2.6.2). Emerging that was completely successful, including e2fsprogs. I am now up and running againn. This update also solved my sound issue (startup and shutdown event sounds would play, but no others.)
