With gentoolkit-0.2.0_pre9 when I issue a equery depends <package> the command seems to take forever, and eats more and more memory (I kill the stuff after several 100s megabytes are taken up). This seems like a bug to me, qpkg -q works without eating so much memory, and actually returns a result. This is with portage-2.0.51rc7, haven't tested on portage-2.0.50.
a) qpkg -q is broken b) the equivalent to qpkg -q would be equery depends -i c) unfortunately the bug is valid :-/
Same problem here. BTW: Where is that option ("-i") documented? There's no (real) manpage and neither "equery depends --help" nor "equery --help depends" produce any output. The generic help ("equery --help") does not list it, either.
I'm having the same problem; 'equery d dev-lang/perl' ran for 11 hours last night. Had to kill -9 it this morning. Using gentoolkit-0.2.0_pre10-r1, portage 2.0.51-r3, gcc-3.4.3, glibc-2.3.4, kernel 2.6.9-nitro3. Also note that 'man equery' says depends is not implemented, but 'equery --help' says it is.
The current stable version of equery works fine for me.
Fixed in gentoolkit-0.2.1_pre*
Fix is in gentoolkit-0.2.1
