Description Aaron DeVore 2004-10-04 17:15:13 UTC
I just got sound to work on Gentoo, then I started KDE. I heard the startup sound for KDE, but none of the audio players are able to play anything. Even when KDE is closed, other users (including root) are unable to play sound. Running the alsaconf setup wizard fixes the problem, but it reoccurs on starting KDE again. None of the media players complain about the sound not playing. I'm using a Sound Blaster card (emu10k1 drivers) with a 2.6 kernel.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. alsaconf
2. aplay <wavfile> - sound plays
3. kdm -> login to KDE -> startup sound
4. noaton - play file -> file progresses, no sound
5. exit KDE
6. no user can play sound

Actual Results:
Sound files are not played

Expected Results:
Sound plays

Probably it's this one:

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69320

workaround until kde-3.3.1:
open kmix -> Settings -> configure... -> Disable "restore volumes on login"

The problem was only with mixer settings, setting bug to invalid.
