Description David Grant 2004-10-04 08:29:45 UTC
*
 * You MUST add the path of Baekmuk fonts in /etc/X11/XF86Config
 *
 * Section "Files"
 *      FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/baekmuk"
 *      FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/ttf/korean/baekmuk"
 *
 * And you must restart your X server.

This is NOT true. AFAIK, with fontconfig you don't even need to add any fonts to /etc/X11/XF86Config or /etc/X11/xorg.conf at all. I also heard that you don't even need to have xfs running if you use fontconfig.

I didn't even restart X or add them to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and now these fonts are available to firefox.

for some setup it's still true. Although i agree this message should be altered or unified, because this really goes for any font.

Either we do this in the eclass or we get the works rolling on a documentation project ? I prefer the second.

There are some docs about fonts on the gentoo wiki. We could create an official gentoo doc because I don't think one exists already. Even the one of the gentoo wiki is confused between xfs-xtt stuff and fontconfig.... there is some extraneous stuff there. We need to unify this. I can help with a doc, but I'll edit it via the wiki. When it is polished someone should submit it as an official doc, then after that go about changing ebuild messages... like you said.

No einfo in 2.2 any more, closing.
