nsupdate is a tool for sending DDNS updates to the server. It's part of the BIND package and is installed when you emerge net-dns/bind. However, I consider this program more as a tool for clients to use and would like to see it also included in the net-dns/bind-tools packege Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Seconded. I need nsupdate, but don't want to run the bind dns server, I want to run pdns. My machine is essentially a laptop client workstation, where the network configuration varies. Since named and pdns both "provide dns", they can't both exist in /etc/init.d, as you end up with: * Caching service dependencies... * Service 'named' already provide 'dns'!; * Not adding service 'pdnsd'... all the time. The only thing that could be a problem is if named needs nsupdate to function.
fixed in bind-tools-9.2.5 thanks
