Description Pengcheng Xu 2018-07-30 14:15:44 UTC
Hello, I'm Pengcheng Xu, a participant of Gentoo GSoC 2018, and my project this year is "Portage-powered Android" (link: https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/projects/#5132157995974656). My IRC nick is KireinaHoro.

I'd like to obtain the write access for the category Project:Android on wiki.gentoo.org so that I can put the documentation for my work such as Guides, development information, and FAQs on the wiki. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if this is a simple task.

The Project: namespace pages are all tied together with the same permissions. It is difficult to separate just one of them.

Project: is allowed to developers, but that is dynamically updated by a script so we cannot just add this person in manually either.

Creating items in the main namespace or under your User: namespace is the easiest and then articles can be moved by someone with rights later.

I agree with what Brain has stated above.

If the end goal here is for GSoC project pages to *only* be edited by GSoC students, then another possibly is for us to create a GSoC namespace that has edit permissions only for GSoC students, devs, and higher priv levels so that not just *anyone* who creates an account can edit the pages.

That should get what you want, if I'm understanding what you want correctly.

Besides the technical issues Brian mentioned above in comment 2, the other issue here is that gitweb.g.o doesn't let GSoC students write to projects hosted in the gitweb.g.o/project/ directory (either). Only developers can write to this space after they've had project approval. I think this separation of privileges via namespace is a good idea, so I'd like to continue in this direction.

Developers have passed the quizzes and are therefore developers. Most GSoC students are not developers.

We're happy to receive Benda's feedback!

Hi Brian and Matthew,

Good to hear from you. From your explanations, I think it would be a better idea to put the related pages into https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Android/.

Thanks for replying this bug finally.
