I have an EPIA M10000 box that runs without a hitch when either in text mode, or frame buffer mode. however, when I run X, the machine hangs after a few seconds.

can you post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file please

I have xorg-x11-6.8.901 and I get some message like: "VGA BIOS image is wrong!! checksum: xxxxxxx
But it doesn't crash, the sceen is black, but then I can get back to console with alf+f1

Turns out that was a hardware problem. some power diode I found detached itself from the board...
Now that the diode is back on, it works...
