Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -u openoffice

I dont know what triggers it (maybe useflags ?) i have he same bug on 2 systems, one amd and 1 intel (and respective -march athlon or -march p4 systemwide CFGLAGS)

Actual Results:  
dont compile

Expected Results:  
should compile

Which perl version do you have? And could you confirm that you can find libstdc++ (it is normally in /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.4/ or similar)

sorry, im not anymore able to reproduce the bug, some update of another package (glibc maybe ?!? ) must have fixed it
