Description Curtis Campbell 2004-09-28 19:52:49 UTC
when i run museseq i get the following ouput:

JACK: sample rate changed: 48000
cannot set tick on /dev/rtc: Inappropriate ioctl for device
precise timer not available
Illegal instruction

the permissions on /dev/rtc and /dev/misc/rtc

crwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10, 135 Jul 25 04:44 /dev/misc/rtc
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root       8 Sep 24 00:42 /dev/rtc -> misc/rtc

I am using udev. I am not using devfs.

museseq will not start unless it can set the tick rate on /dev/rtc

I have get the same error message on versions 7.0 and 6.3 also.

Since this bug prevents me from starting the application, I can not further test the application.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.install museseq
2.run museseq
3.get error message about /dev/rtc

Actual Results:
I get the above error message everytime.

Expected Results:
museseq should be able to set the tick rate on /dev/rtc.

Also i forgot to mention this:

I have enhanced rtc compiled as a module and loaded.

Comment 2 Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-09-30 17:02:45 UTC
fixing proper severity
Comment 3 Eric Shattow 2005-01-09 02:26:07 UTC
AFAIK this was due to the request for a higher RTC timing frequency than is the default (1024). upstream is clueless. may be fixed in latest code, will need to investigate.
Comment 4 Eric Shattow 2005-01-09 09:04:48 UTC
sorry, the default was not 1024, that is the target value. try

sysctl -w dev.rtc.max-user-freq=1024

and let me know if you are able to start museseq then.
