Now that Firefox 52 ESR is nearing end of life, it would be nice to add some other XUL-based browser to gentoo for those who want or need XUL extensions or don't like the new firefox GUI. There is basilisk ( https://www.basilisk-browser.org/ ), which is a project dedicated to provide a XUL-based browser with a pre-57-like GUI which is compatible with classic firefox plugins, and there is waterfox ( https://www.waterfoxproject.org/ ), which will also support XUL and classic plugins for some time (don't know which way they plan to go long-term). As gentoo has ebuilds for firefox, adapting them to basilisk or waterfox should not be too difficult.

The problem with this is the security side of things, how do these project plan to maintain security issues that are discovered? I for one am not in favor of introducing things that are not moving forward and those things that have security concerns. The mozilla team will not be a part of any efforts to provide or maintain ebuilds of the packages.

Now they have Waterfox Classic and Waterfox G, as I understand G version is based on current code of Firefox, with security patches. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterfox
Is the reason for not having ebuilds for basilisk, waterfox and no official ebuilds for palemoon security? For palemoon, upstream said that they backport security fixes. Are there any other reasons not to have a palemoon ebuild?
