Line numbers due not show up in =app-editors/bluefish-2.2.6 regardless of if built with "gtk3" use flag.  According to this form, it is a known issue with gtk3: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?topic=139618.0  

Later versions, if I'm not mistaken, reverted to gtk2.  Regardless, it does seem fixed in later versions.  I tried 2.2.9 and it worked.  2.2.10 had other obvious bugs so I'll save that for another report.  I am posting this bug report due to the latest stable version in the official Gentoo overlay having this issue and requiring a reconfigure of portage to accept and install a newer version.

My system is: 
Arch- AMD64 
Profile- [16]  default/linux/amd64/17.0/desktop (stable) 
Desktop Environment- XFCE with 2 monitors 
Kernel- 4.14.27-gentoo
