the LiveCD does boot, but after selecting the keymap i get the following error: ---- /newroot/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 is not a valid LiveCD; skipping... ---- no CD found so it looks like the /linuxrc is executed, looking for a "livecd.loop" or "livecd.cloop". cat /proc/cmdline at that minimal propt one gets after that failure gives: splash=true vga=791 initrd=initrd.1024 acpi=off root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc nomce BOOT_IMAGE=gentoo dokeymap nodhcp nothing like loop=... as suggested by the isolinux/isolinux.cfg furthermore i get welcomed by a bootsplash displaying "Gentoo 1.4 [...] RELEASE: 1.4-Release". Another strange thing is that the smp-kernel is of the 2.4-series, at least that what i get with uname -r in that minimal prompt... this happend with both versions of the minimal-version: install-x86-2004.2-r1-minimal.iso (md5sum: 8d1c38413f7b256eea2230cb3c11bdce) install-x86-minimal-2004.2.iso (md5sum: 237886b35a7591a97298fe1ed4da238a) both gotten from european mirrors. (gentoo.inode.at for the -r1, rwth-aachen.de, ftp.uni-erlangen.de, ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de for the official release) i also have the x86-packagelist-2004.2.txt and x86-release-notes.txt (first line: "x86 Release Notes for Gentoo Linux 2004.2") on the CD, so i do not have a wrong image. to me this raises the impression that the ISOs were tainted... I have Gentoo 1.4 installed (updated to the 2004.2-profile) still on one harddisk, but this shouldn't have any effect on the LiveCD... i know, all this really sounds like i'm to stupid... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. get the ISO from one of those mirrors, check for the same md5sum 2. burn and boot it Actual Results: livecd.squashfs doesn't get mounted; only a limited commandline Expected Results: mount livecd.squashfs
Something is very very wrong with that CD... Can you try downloading it from somewhere else? There's nothing on the CD which should say Gentoo 1.4 anything... and the smp kernel is 2.6.7 for 2004.2, so that definitely can't be a proper CD.
No response... seems invalid... so invalidating...
