Whenever I try to use k3b it crashes almost immediately, especially when I click on the "Create a new data CD"-button or later when I change some settings in the burning dialog. Removing the .kde/share/config/k3brc like suggested in the KDE bugzilla solves the problem only until the next start of k3b and additionally even if this file is removed, it crashes at another point. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.start k3b 2.try to create a new data cd project Actual Results: k3b crashes immediatelly or when I try to change some settings in the burning dialog. Burning a CD successfully is impossible. Expected Results: k3b should not crash and burn CDs I'm using the kde3.3, k3b-0.11.12-r1, gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r4 on an AMD64, but I had the same problems with gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7... try the latest version in portage and try to lower your cflags
I tried the latest version and it seems to be litte bit more stable, but it's still impossible to burn a CD due to random crashes. I which way you would recommend to lower the cflags?
I just recompiled k3b-0.11.17 with CFLAGS="-O0 -ggdb3" and CFLAGS="-ggdb", but this does not change anything... Very, very strange...

Created attachment 40990 [details] kernel config file (for compilation) Try the following kernel config file for compilation. The problem seems to be preemtible option. I have test it without problems on k3b 0.11.17. Give it a test. Olivier
Thank you. I tried you config with 2.6.9-rc2-mm2 (I only activated my Realtek 8139), but it changed nothing. Trying to create for example a DataCD immediately crashes k3b. I also tried to deactivate "preemtible" option in gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r4 and to deactivate cfq-scheduler... Jannick
Created attachment 41125 [details] another kernel config file Try this config file. Personnally, it works with k3b 0.11.16 on root and user account. Works well. Olivier
I have only one problem with k3b 0.11.16, I can burn only one data cd at a time. After burning of a cd, if I try to create another data cd project, k3b crash. I have to start again k3b to burn my second data cd. Olivier.
The new config also changed notthing. K3b is still absolutely unusable. So i went back to gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7 with my old config and to the "stable" version of k3b. Of cause I got the same problems again. But then I tried for the first time to start k3b out of xfce4 and everything workes fine. The same happens if I start k3b out of XSession. I think it is quite important that k3b only crashes if started out of kde. I tgink we are coming closer ;-) Jannick
deactivate nptl USE variable. USE="-nptl" and rebuild the following packages : glibc, cdrtools, cdrdao, qt, kdelibs, kdebase, k3b. For me, it looks good with the following version of k3b : 0.11.17 . Olivier.
so what's the status of this?
With the most actual gentoo-dev-sources (atm 2.6.9-gentoo-r9), deactivated preemtible option and deactivated nptl USE variable, k3b-1.11.18 works better, but is still very unstable. For example burning a data CD only works if speed-autodetection is deactivated and a image is created first. Otherwise it will crash immediately.
