Screenshot of nmon showing rendering problems

Since some system updates I see strange rendering problems in nmon.
Doesn't matter which version. See screenshot attached.
Happens in KDE console, lxterminal. Classic x11-terms/xterm and linux text console seem not to be affected.
Comment 1 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2018-04-17 20:03:41 UTC
In Fedora they were applying this patch to fix some "rendering issues with ncurses apps" with konsole-17.12*
https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/konsole5/raw/43cde26ed8a4e3162ed87fa0d3b48b1eb70a5220/f/konsole_REP.patch

Maybe you could give it a try
Comment 2 Holger Hoffstätte 2018-04-17 21:46:34 UTC
I have the same issue but with xfce4-terminal; all other ncurses-based apps work (alpine, htop..) except nmon, and the problem is definitely the recent ncurses update to 6.1. Everything was fine with 6.0.

Since 6.0 is now gone I was forced to update as well and started investigating. What I found was that while xfce4-terminal sets TERM to "xterm" by default, setting TERM to something else in the shell ("konsole" or "xterm-color" worked for me) seems to fix the problem and nmon immediately renders properly again. I have no idea whether this is a problem with the terminal emulator, ncurses or the application itself.

So tl;dr: try to set TERM=xterm-color in your profile.
Comment 3 Nelo-T. Wallus (ntnn) 2018-06-05 19:18:15 UTC
I haven't been able to replicate the issue with other VTE-based terminal emulators.

Did somebody try if the patch works and if it breaks other stuff?
Comment 4 Nelo-T. Wallus (ntnn) 2018-06-06 19:22:13 UTC
tazinblack, please attach the emerge info and the build log, as well as the DE/WM you're using.
I can't reproduce the issue with Konsole in i3 on X.

I use standard KDE plasma
Comment 7 Nelo-T. Wallus (ntnn) 2018-06-11 19:54:50 UTC
Are you using 6.1-r2 ncurses and is nmon built against it? If not please rebuild and test again.

Yes I use that version and to make sure nmon is build against it I just rebuilt it. But that does not change the behavior.

A functional workaround is to change $TERM from xterm-256color to xterm-color before starting nmon with 'export TERM="xterm-color"'

if you give me detailed instructions how to apply the patch mentioned above I'm going to give it a try

Is this still an issue...?
