xtide: error while loading shared libraries: libpng.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Persists after a (re)merge of libpng-1.6.29::gentoo

You would want to rebuild sci-geosciences/xtide itself. Please attach its entire build log to this bug report.

Please fully update your system, run emerge -a --depclean and preserve-rebuild
Comment 4 Rick Jenkins 2018-04-16 20:22:32 UTC
All done, no change in xtide error.
Comment 5 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2018-06-20 16:03:10 UTC
Maybe unmerging the old installed version will help :/
Comment 6 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2018-07-11 15:17:18 UTC
and also run "revdep-rebuild" to see if your system is consistent
Comment 7 Rick Jenkins 2018-07-11 17:22:29 UTC
Every Monday I run an update script which includes:

emerge --sync -q
emerge -DuavqN --with-bdeps=y --keep-going --quiet-fail --autounmask-write world --backtrack=30
emerge -q --keep-going --quiet-fail @preserved-rebuild
revdep-rebuild -i -- -q --keep-going --quiet-fail

In addition, when gcc-7.3 was stabilised I did

emerge -e @system
emerge -e @world

and from time to time I run

glsa-check -l

then fix anything that shows up.

By these means I keep my system reasonably up-to-date, and it is hard to see what other measures might be needed. I assume this means that The system is current, but I would value any further suggestions.

I have de-merged and re-merged xtide, and the bug persists.

Well, this is embarrassing.

Found an ancient copy of Xtide on my path, deleted it, all is now fine.

Please accept my apologies for the wasted time.
