Updated metadata.xml file for showeq package

I'll be submitting an ebuild for the showeq-maps package that was recently seperated from the core showeq package.

Just have the showeq ebuild download and install the maps as well please. I don't know if there's a good reason to break it out into two packages.
Comment 5 Erik Bunce 2004-09-24 19:55:40 UTC
They have been split into seperate packages for the following reasons:
A) They realistically have completely seperate release schedules. The maps are updated very infrequently in relation to showeq itself. Being updated once in every 7 or so ShowEQ releases.

B) The maps themselves are ShowEQ version independent. The same maps can be used with ShowEQ 5.0.0.15 and used with ShowEQ-4.3.21. These same maps are in a format that is also used by other third party utilities.

C) The maps comprised approximately 79% of the showeq packages tarball size despite their infrequent updates. This artificially increased the bandwidth usage of any and all mirrors, including your own, when an update to the showeq package occurred. As an example, showeq-5.0.0.15.tar.bz2 is now only 674KB as opposed to the previous 2.7MB of ShowEQ-5.0.0.14.tar.bz2. With the additional maps that had just been added due to the recent EQ expansion "Omens of War" the size of future showeq tarballs would have unnecessarily exceeded 3.3MB.

D) Users may choose to install and use sets of maps from sources other than the showeq official maps with showeq. A feature that I may support in future versions of the showeq-maps ebuild.

Enjoy,
Zaphod (dohpaZ)

Never mind, I think I've decided on an alternative way to distribute the maps. later today I'll submit an updated ebuild that automatically downloads the current maps for now.

Enjoy,
